By way of a small thank you, every time you donate £20 to the podcast we will send you a pack of cards from the “101 Signs There Might Be A Bit Of Irish In You” card collection. Each card is printed beautifully in Dublin on lovely silky card and comes with a free envelope. Have a look at the picture below. They might be a nice way to keep in touch with people back home or abroad. They are not available to buy. Support the show, keep it free to download forever and get these very special cards that prove you are sound.
Sorry to say that we are currently out of t-shirts. Thanks to everyone who has made a donation to the podcast. As I type this, lads with big strong arms are screen printing more by hand. I’d imagine they will be back in stock shortly. It just depends on how many lads are involved. If you’d like to make a donation even though there won’t be a t-shirt in it for you, that would be incredibly kind.
We’ve had some incredible guests on Irishman Abroad in recent weeks. If you missed them they are all available from iTunes for absolutely nothing. I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who has kindly donated to the show by clicking on the donate button on this site. The donations go straight to the costs of running and producing the episodes. If you’d like to throw in something in return for the free entertainment just click the button now. If you give more than £20 you get a limited edition Irishman Abroad t-shirt!
Later in the week I’ll be announcing a very special live episode recording in Dublin. Check back in to hear more. Thanks again for listening.
There are some items of clothing that define a generation. The ancient Greek’s had the toga, the caveman had those furry underpants, the ravers of the 1990s had X-Works jeans and we, as Irish people abroad, have this very smart t-shirt. The official Irishman Abroad t-shirt of champions is the Ryan Gosling of t-shirts. It appeals equally to both men and women, looks incredibly sharp regardless of where it is seen and it has a unmistakable dangerous edge that makes it irresistible to the touch. Unlike Ryan Gosling there are 62 of these little beauties in the world today. One of them can be yours if you donate more than £20 to the Irishman Abroad podcast today. Don’t second guess your instinct. Do what feels right. This is your life and denying yourself these simple pleasures is no way to live it. Help keep the podcast dream alive!
Pretty much the only solo show I’ll be doing in Dublin until the Autumn. “Here For A Good Time Not A Long Time” will be exactly what it says on the poster. A night of all new standup, messing and stories with one or maybe two other acts that I love to warm you up. I’ve kept the ticket price as low as possible so more us can go. Just click on the poster to book them or give the box office a shout if you’re going with a group and they will hook you up with some sort of group discount. I really can’t wait for this one. See you there.
My new weekly column in The Irish Post has been up and running for the last three weeks. The first one is about reminding yourself you’re Irish. The second one is about children falling on their face. And this week’s article is about feeling shit about yourself in January. Each one is like stupid essay. I’ve tried to make them as funny as possible so you know, enjoy. And if you don’t enjoy, then do something else.
Such as download the new episodes of the podcast. Last week’s Irishman Abroad featured former world snooker champion Ken Doherty and this week I spoke to the Irish comedy icon Ardal O’Hanlon. It’s on Soundcloud and iTunes obviously. Click on the new dates tab and you can see where I’ll be next. This weekend Birmingham. Next weekend I’ll be doing a very special solo show as part of the Leicester Comedy Festival. Tickets are available here.
Hard to believe that the character of Nidge from Love Hate is inside Tom Vaughan Lawlor. I’ve never met a kinder person. We shared a coffee at his house and spoke to me about his journey and his life to this point. If this conversation doesn’t affect you in some way you are officially made of stone. Enjoy.
Hope you had a very happy holiday season. There’s a lot of very exciting things coming up in 2014 and this time I really mean that. Not like the other times when it was just more of the same shite! To start with the podcast was named as in iTunes list of Best Of 2013. Really chuffed and grateful to all the guests, listeners and of course my producer Brian Connolly for making this possible. I’ll do my best to update the blog more often in the coming year. Promise. If you want more up to the minute updates just give us a follow on Twitter @jarlath. Thanks for all the support. If you’d like to enter the league of super friends and legends just drop us a small donation and the podcast will continue into the future. Seriously, a donation would be a huge help.
Thanks to everyone who has downloaded and listened to the podcast. “An Irishman Abroad” has been atop the iTunes hit parade for weeks now – which is crazy to me. It has been recommended by The Guardian newspaper – which is also nuts. And we now have hundreds of thousands of weekly listeners – which actually melts a small part of my brain every time I think about it.
If you haven’t got involved yet all you need to do is look in the mirror and say “Irishman, Irishman, Irishman” and I will appear and guide you through the steps of downloading it to your phone or computer. That’s not true but don’t be ashamed to try it just in case it is. For everyone else there is this handy link to iTunes or Soundcloud.
The podcast has had a couple of very generous sponsors and advertisers which have kept the whole thing a float. I hate when a podcast has the same ads week in week out so just email me at jarlo11@yahoo.com if you’d like your web business to sponsor the show or if you just want to get in touch. It costs very little to take an episode (something in the region of one hundred to one hundred thousand dollars) and you get a whole load of fringe benefits.
If you would like to support the podcast and you don’t have a web business just buy a pack of cards from the shop. I will be launching a special 2013 Christmas pack in the coming weeks.
Once again thanks to everyone who has made the show what it is.
My podcast, An Irishman Abroad is now available on iTunes. It’s a series of interviews with well known Irish people about moving abroad, comedy, life and the most important lessons they have learned. Over the next few months we’ll have some of the biggest names in entertainment, sport and public life sharing their experiences stories and wisdom. The first the episode is a cracker with the most generous man in comedy Graham Linehan. Graham opens up about moving to “druggy” London, writing Ted and why he believes “90% of everything is crap”. Click to subscribe or just listen. If you like it give it a subscription and a rating. You’ll be the first to hear when a new episode goes up.
